Assignment

Assign a patient to the person responsible for follow-up and day-to-day ownership.

Assignment gives one person clear ownership of a patient for follow-up and coordination.

Assignment is an ownership signal for the team. It does not change app permissions by itself.

Where you will see it

The assignee shows up in the places where ownership matters most:

  • the patient detail header
  • the Live Mode patient header
  • patient lists and saved views that filter by assignee
  • quick views such as Assigned to me
  • related workflows started from the patient, such as new plans and lab orders

How assignment gets set

There are two common ways a patient gets an assignee:

  • someone picks the assignee manually from the patient page or Live Mode
  • circleOS assigns one automatically after a new booking, when that booking’s provider is linked to an employee profile

Automatic assignment only happens when the patient does not already have an assignee. circleOS saves that match as unconfirmed first, so the team can review it before treating it as owned work.

How to change or confirm it

Use the assignee avatar in the patient header, or the same control in Live Mode.

If nobody is assigned yet, the header shows an empty add-person avatar instead.

  1. Click the current assignee avatar, or the empty avatar if nobody is assigned yet.
  2. Choose the person who should own the patient.
  3. The change is saved straight away.

If circleOS assigned someone automatically, the avatar stays in an unconfirmed state until a team member confirms it. In the current UI, that state is shown directly on the avatar and can be confirmed there. Picking a person manually also confirms the assignment.

You will also see assignee avatars in tables and cards. Those are useful for context, but the patient page and Live Mode are the clearest places to change or confirm ownership.

What assignment affects

Assignment is mainly an organisation tool.

It helps you:

  • filter patients by owner
  • power views such as Assigned to me
  • prefill related workflows such as plans or lab orders started from that patient

When assignment changes to a real team member, circleOS can also trigger the assignment notification workflow for that assignee if your workspace has it enabled.

Reassigning later

Assignment is not permanent.

If responsibility changes, just pick a new assignee from the same avatar control.
